Cape Town to Launch Groundbreaking Health Technology Park in Ndabeni

The City of Cape Town has announced a transformative step in unlocking the potential of underutilised municipal land with plans to establish the Cape Town Health Technology Park at the corner of Oude Molen and Diesel Road in Ndabeni.

The City’s Mayoral Committee has recommended transferring the site to the Biological and Vaccines Institute of Southern Africa (BioVac), a leading biopharmaceutical company specialising in vaccine production, clinical research, and large-scale manufacturing for both local and international markets. The proposal now awaits approval by the full Council.

The new Health Technology Park is envisioned as a hub for medical and biotech innovation — a space where laboratories, research centres, and manufacturing facilities will come together to drive growth in the health and life sciences sector.

“This is a strategic milestone for Cape Town,” said Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth. “The Health Technology Park will revitalise a currently unused site, attract investment, and create jobs in one of the country’s most critical growth sectors.”

The development follows extensive valuations, public participation, and consultation with stakeholders. Alderman Vos highlighted that the project will help position Cape Town as a leading centre for health technology and biomanufacturing in South Africa, while supporting local suppliers and service providers.

“In short, this is about putting underutilised public land to work — stimulating innovation, creating employment, and strengthening our city’s role in global health innovation,” he added.
