By Naushad Khan
The Drakenstein business community gathered at the scenic Nantes Estate in Paarl on Friday, 27 February 2026, for the latest edition of the Drakenstein Sakekamer/Business Chamber popular Sakekoffie-Geleentheid networking event.
The monthly gathering continues to attract a strong turnout of entrepreneurs, business leaders and professionals from across the Cape Winelands, offering a relaxed yet productive environment where local companies can connect, exchange ideas and explore new business opportunities. Cape Town This Month Managing Editor Naushad Khan attended the event, which highlighted the importance of collaboration and relationship-building within the region’s growing economic ecosystem.
Beyond the networking, the morning also featured a presentation from Deon Cloete of the Cape Winelands Airport project team. Cloete shared insights into the ambitious plans for the proposed airport development near Durbanville and the potential economic impact it could bring to the broader Western Cape.
The multi-billion-rand Cape Winelands Airport project is envisioned as a major aviation and logistics hub that will complement existing infrastructure while improving regional travel efficiency. Once operational, the airport is expected to handle millions of passengers annually and create significant employment opportunities, while also offering airlines operational efficiencies and positioning the Cape Winelands closer to international travel routes.
Cloete also highlighted the wider opportunities the development could unlock for tourism, logistics, property development and hospitality sectors across the region. The project forms part of a broader vision to strengthen the Cape Winelands as an integrated economic corridor connecting air, rail, road and maritime transport.
Events such as the Sakekamer’s monthly gatherings play an important role in keeping the local business community informed about major developments while creating space for meaningful engagement. As the Winelands economy continues to evolve, these platforms remain vital in strengthening partnerships and supporting sustainable regional growth.
