InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town Opens Its Doors at the V&A Waterfront
A new chapter in Cape Town’s luxury hospitality landscape has begun with the opening of InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town at the iconic Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Originally inaugurated in 1997 by Nelson Mandela, the landmark property returns reimagined following a multimillion-dollar redevelopment.
Occupying the former Table Bay Hotel site, the 306-room property – including 40 suites – stands between the Atlantic Ocean and the majestic Table Mountain, within the Southern Hemisphere’s oldest working harbour. The redesign, led by LW Design Group’s Gina Munro, honours the hotel’s heritage while introducing contemporary lines, soft natural tones and refined finishes. In a nod to its history, the original marble specialists returned to restore the foyer flooring, while hardwood floors have been carefully preserved.
The hotel forms part of the global portfolio of IHG Hotels & Resorts and integrates into the IHG One Rewards ecosystem, offering seamless connectivity for international travellers.
A Modern Luxury Experience

Designed for today’s blended traveller – balancing work, leisure and cultural discovery – the hotel introduces elevated hospitality experiences. Guests benefit from a global partnership with Timeshifter, a NASA-utilised app providing personalised jet lag mitigation plans.
The concierge team serves as cultural connectors, guiding guests to nearby beaches, winelands escapes, and ferries to Robben Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A Seat at the Table

Four distinct dining venues anchor the culinary offering:
- Le Bistrot de JAN – French-inspired bistro cuisine with Cape influences by Michelin-starred chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen.
- Flint & Fennel – All-day dining and afternoon tea.
- The Botanist’s Table – A refined lobby lounge celebrating artisanal gins and local wines.
- Solandra – A sun-drenched pool deck by day, transitioning to evening cocktails and wood-fired sourdough pizzas.
Wellness and Incredible Occasions
Spa InterContinental offers curated treatments inspired by global traditions and indigenous Cape botanicals, alongside a Turkish Hammam and harbour-facing fitness centre.
For celebrations, the hotel’s salons and grand ballroom accommodate intimate gatherings of 50 or larger events of up to 200 guests, positioning the property as a premier address for milestone occasions.
As one of more than 235 InterContinental hotels worldwide, the Cape Town opening reinforces Africa’s growing prominence in global luxury travel – blending heritage, location and contemporary sophistication in one of the city’s most iconic settings.
