Jetour T2 Makes History as South Africa’s 2026 Car of the Year
The Jetour T2 has been named the 2026 South African Car of the Year, becoming the first Chinese automotive brand to secure the prestigious title in the competition’s 40-year history. The announcement was made by the South African Guild of Mobility Journalists following an extensive evaluation process involving some of the country’s leading motoring experts.
The award follows a rigorous judging programme that began with 55 qualifying vehicles before being narrowed down to 18 finalists. A panel of 25 jurors assessed each contender across a range of criteria including innovation, technology, safety, performance, quality, value for money, practicality and suitability for South African driving conditions.
The T2’s victory reflects the growing influence of Chinese automotive manufacturers in the local market. Since its South African launch in October 2025, the model has recorded sales of more than 4,000 units, while Jetour has rapidly climbed the national sales rankings to become one of the country’s top-selling vehicle brands.
Available in three derivatives, the T2 combines rugged SUV styling with a technology-rich cabin and a comprehensive suite of safety features. Higher-specification models offer four-wheel-drive capability and increased power outputs, positioning the vehicle as a strong contender in the adventure SUV segment. The model also secured top honours in the Mild Adventure category during the awards programme.
Jetour’s success comes amid increasing competition in South Africa’s automotive sector, where buyers are placing greater emphasis on technology, safety, value and after-sales support. The brand has continued expanding its dealer network and product range, including the recent introduction of electrified T-Series i-DM models.

With the Car of the Year title now secured, Jetour is expected to build on its growing presence in South Africa as it continues to expand its footprint and challenge established players in the local market.
