Sale of Prime Kraaifontein Industrial Land Paves Way for Major Private Investment and Job Creation

Cape Town, October 2025 — In a significant boost for Cape Town’s northern economic corridor, Council has approved the R61 million sale (excluding VAT) of Portion 9 of Farm 732 in Wynland Industrial Park, Kraaifontein, following a competitive public auction. The 9,23-hectare property represents the last large City-owned tract of land in this high-demand logistics hub, strategically positioned near the N1 and R300.

The transaction, administered by High Street Auctions in May 2025, marks a milestone in the City’s drive to unlock idle municipal land for productive use. The sale supports large-scale private investment, industrial growth, and sustained job creation, while broadening the City’s rates base and reducing holding risks.

Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, hailed the deal as a model of effective, investment-enabling governance. “This is the City doing exactly what we said we would do – unlock municipal land so that the private sector can invest, build, and create jobs. By releasing well-located serviced industrial land transparently, we drive growth without burdening ratepayers,” said Vos.

The funds from the sale will be reinvested into city-wide service delivery, in alignment with the City’s 2022–2027 Integrated Development Plan to expand jobs and investment while maintaining a pipeline of strategic industrial land for future growth.
