South Africa Ranks Among World’s Top Five Luxury Travel Destinations
South Africa has once again proven its global appeal, earning a place among the world’s top five luxury travel destinations in the inaugural Roxstar Luxury Travel Trends Report 2025. The report, compiled from Roxstar Luxury Travel bookings between 2022 and 2025, places South Africa alongside the USA, UAE, Maldives, and France.
“South Africa holds a special place in the hearts of luxury travellers,†said Roxy Robinson, Founder of Roxstar Luxury Travel. “Cape Town combines vibrant urban culture with some of the world’s most beautiful natural scenery, while our northern safari lodges provide complete escape.â€
Among the country’s most sought-after properties are Belmond Mount Nelson, One&Only Cape Town, and iconic safari destinations such as Singita, Londolozi, and Cheetah Plains. Travellers are also booking exclusive experiences, including private safaris with expert photographers, wine tastings in the Cape Winelands, and after-hours cultural tours.
Culinary tourism continues to shine, with Cape Town’s La Colombe and FYN ranking among Roxstar’s most booked restaurants — celebrated alongside global icons like Nobu Malibu and Le Cinq in Paris.
However, Robinson cautions that competition is heating up. The Middle East, particularly Saudi Arabia and the UAE, is investing heavily in luxury tourism, while African neighbours such as Namibia and Rwanda are positioning themselves as serene wellness escapes.
“To stay ahead, South Africa must prioritise safety, infrastructure, and wellness-focused tourism,†Robinson added. “We have the natural and cultural assets — now it’s about sustaining excellence.â€
South Africa’s continued allure underscores its place as a world-class destination, where natural splendour meets unmatched sophistication.
