The Rocky Horror Show Returns to Cape Town for Encore Season in 2026
After a completely sold-out run at Theatre on the Bay, The Rocky Horror Show is set to make a triumphant return to Cape Town in August 2026, giving audiences another opportunity to experience one of musical theatre’s most enduring cult sensations. Presented by Pieter Toerien Productions and LAMTA, the production reopens at Theatre on the Bay on 28 August following overwhelming demand during its current season.
Directed by Steven Stead, the production has earned acclaim for its energetic reinterpretation of Richard O’Brien’s iconic musical, blending rock ’n’ roll, outrageous comedy and immersive audience participation into a high-voltage theatrical experience. Craig Urbani leads the cast as the flamboyant and unforgettable Frank-’N-Furter, bringing charisma and theatrical flair to a role that has become legendary in global stage culture. Audiences can also expect beloved musical numbers such as Time Warp, Sweet Transvestite and Hot Patootie – Bless My Soul, all delivered with the production’s signature glamour and camp spectacle.

First staged in 1973, The Rocky Horror Show continues to resonate with audiences across generations through its celebration of individuality, freedom and unapologetic self-expression. Its enduring popularity has transformed the production into more than a musical, evolving into a shared theatrical event where costumes, call-backs and audience interaction form part of the experience.
The production heads to Pieter Toerien’s Theatre at Montecasino after its current Cape Town season closes on 31 May before returning to Theatre on the Bay from 28 August to 18 October 2026. Tickets start from R200 and are available through Webtickets and the Theatre on the Bay box office. PG16.
